Mrs. Reid and Mrs. Tronetti are the art teachers for Eden Hall Upper Elementary. 

Students will have art class 1x/week for a 45-minute class. 

Students complete unit projects in a variety of mediums that can carry over for 5 or more classes (5 or more weeks). You will see grading is reflected accordingly. 

Grading for the 1st and 3rd quarters are based on studio habits, while the 2nd and 4th quarters encompass the entire semester project grades in addition to studio habits.

This course focuses on students learning the touch typing of alphabetic reaches. Students learn that the ability to key effectively without looking at the keyboard is a lifelong skill. The students demonstrate keying mastery using the correct fingers and reaches to type each alpha key. 

In addition, the students will display proper keyboarding techniques. 

Additionally, students learn to recognize dangers in online communications, respond assertively to a variety of dangerous situations, and they learn to identify situations when an adult needs to be notified.  

Students will also use computational thinking and problem-solving skills while coding as well as develop a future career pathway.

Welcome to 4th-Grade Music! Fourth-grade students are in for an exciting year in music class! They'll sing a variety of songs, explore and reinforce important musical concepts, perform on classroom instruments, and even learn to play the ukulele. Students will also spend time in the EH piano lab, developing their keyboard skills. In addition to regular music class, there are four fantastic performing groups open to all students during explore time:

• Orchestra
• Chorus
• Guitar Club

There’s something for everyone, and we can’t wait to make music together this year!

Mrs. Adams and Mr. Kunz are the fourth-grade Health and Physical Education teachers. Students will have physical education class once a week for 45 minutes. In physical education class, students will cultivate knowledge, passion, and skill to empower healthy habits for a physically active lifestyle. Our class lessons focus on health & wellness, team sports, cooperative games & activities, and fitness. Students will engage in many activities that support skill development, teamwork, sportsmanship, and enjoyment!

Mrs. Karns is our World Language teacher, and Mrs. Dufalla is our school librarian. Students will attend World Language and Library on alternating weeks throughout the school year. 

World Language is designed to provide students with a broad introduction to languages and cultures from around the world. Throughout the year, students will explore topics such as American Sign Language, English Around the World, Latin, Italian, Portuguese, etc. Students will need to bring a folder from home to use for World Language class. Additional information about the course and classroom expectations will be shared by Mrs. Karns at the start of the school year. 

This year, we are excited to add Library to our Encore rotation! During Library, students will develop the skills needed to become confident, independent library users, empowering them to take ownership of their learning and reading choices. They will learn how to effectively use Destiny, our online library catalog, to search for books, manage checkouts, and track their personal reading journey. Fourth-grade students will be encouraged to explore books that match their interests, fostering a lifelong love of reading while nurturing curiosity and independence. Through engaging, project-based learning experiences, students will also build essential research and digital literacy skills as they learn to navigate digital encyclopedias, introductory databases, and other online resources. These experiences support classroom learning while strengthening students' reading, writing, research, and critical thinking skills.

This course builds upon skills learned in grade 4 where touch-typing helps to develop fluency in keying. Students show growth in the ability to key effectively without looking at the keyboard and develop this lifelong skill. Additionally, this course focuses on mastering basic word processing skills, digital citizenship, computational thinking with coding, basics of income and expenses, and developing a career pathway for their future.

5th Grade Music: Growing as Musicians! Fifth grade students will continue to build on their music theory knowledge and performance skills this year! They'll be introduced to the guitar, continue developing their abilities in our piano lab, and deepen their understanding of musical concepts through engaging activities and performances. Students are also invited to join one of our four exciting performing groups, which meet during explore time and are open to all:

In Grade 5, World Language is designed to begin introducing students to the languages they will have the opportunity to study at the Middle School level: Spanish, French, and German. Each language makes up one unit, and in each unit, students are introduced to the alphabet and then have the opportunity to practice with common vocabulary. Topics for vocabulary include greetings, numbers, months and body parts. Students are also introduced to some general grammatical concepts such as differences in punctuation and capitalization. All three units conclude with a project that allows students to experience what it would be like to travel to another country. Every unit focuses on language and culture so that students leave the class with communication skills, as well as knowledge of important cultural concepts from around the world. Students will need to bring a folder from home to use for World Language class. Additional information about the course and classroom expectations will be shared by Mrs. Karns at the start of the school year. 

This year, we are excited to add Library to our Encore rotation! In addition to encouraging students to select and enjoy a variety of reading formats and genres, the fifth-grade library curriculum is designed to build upon, enrich, and extend the literacy skills students develop during English Language Arts. Through engaging, project-based learning experiences, students will strengthen their reading comprehension, research, writing, and critical thinking skills while learning to integrate information from multiple sources to answer complex questions and develop a deeper understanding of a topic.

As students continue to grow as researchers, they will learn how to evaluate the credibility of sources, use text features to efficiently locate and interpret information, and properly cite the resources they use. These experiences not only support classroom learning but also help students become thoughtful readers, effective communicators, and confident, independent learners.

Students will demonstrate improvements in speed and accuracy with keying mastery, build upon skills learned in 5th grade utilizing intermediate word processing, as well as develop presentation skills, career readiness, basics of personal finance, digital citizenship, computational thinking in coding, and developing a career pathway for their future.

6th Grade Music: Advancing in Musical Mastery! Sixth grade students will dive into more advanced music skills this year, including an introduction to composing their own music! They'll also develop greater proficiency in piano and guitar, exploring more advanced techniques and creative expression. Students are encouraged to join one of our four performing groups, which meet during explore time and are open to all:

It’s going to be an inspiring and creative year in music!

In physical education class, students will cultivate knowledge, passion, and skill to empower healthy habits for a physically active lifestyle. Our class lessons focus on health & wellness, team sports, cooperative games & activities, and fitness. Students will engage in many activities that support skill development, teamwork, sportsmanship, and enjoyment!

Mrs. Karns is our World Language teacher, and Mrs. Dufalla is our school librarian. Students will attend World Language and Library on alternating weeks throughout the school year. In Grade 6, World Language is designed to expose students to the three languages they will have the choice to study at the Middle School level: French, German, or Spanish. Each unit begins with a review of pronunciation, alphabet, and greetings before introducing students to the new topics of colors and food. Students are also introduced to some general grammatical concepts such as adjective placement and endings. All three units conclude with a project that allows students to experience what it would be like to travel to another country. In the final unit, students discuss the concept of artificial languages and have the opportunity to create their own language. Taking inspiration from the languages they have studied over the years, students will begin by creating an alphabet and will then generate vocabulary words. Finally, they will establish grammar rules so they are able to communicate in their own artificial languages. This is the culminating project for Eden Hall’s World Language program, and is our students’ chance to demonstrate application of everything they have learned about language over the past three years.

This year, we are excited to add Library to our Encore rotation! In Grade 6 Library, students engage in meaningful research and inquiry experiences that complement and extend the skills they are developing in their ELA classroom. As students read, analyze, and respond to information from a variety of sources, they continue to strengthen their reading comprehension, writing, organization, and communication skills. Through research-based projects, students learn to gather information from multiple sources, synthesize their findings, and construct well-rounded, evidence-based responses. As students continue to grow as researchers, they sharpen their critical thinking skills by evaluating sources and distinguishing between credible and unreliable information.
