Eden Hall Readers Face Off in Annual Battle of the Books

Students at Eden Hall put their love of reading to the test over three nights in late February and early March as they engaged in Battle of the Books, an annual competition designed to encourage reading and to give recognition to those who enjoy reading.

Led by co-directors Mrs. Christina Strine and Mrs. Tina Beam, Battle of the Books kicked off in early December when students attended kick-off meetings, formed grade-level teams of 3-5 participants and selected a team manager. Students were then tasked with spending the next several weeks reading from a list of 8-10 books (see below) selected by the Battle of the Books Committee in preparation for battle night.

“Battle of the Books has become an event that students in all three grade levels look forward to every year,” said Mrs. Strine. “The enjoyment and excitement we see from all the participants as they read great literature and work together as a team shows the value of this program.”

In advance of the battle, students were required to create a team poster to display on battle night. Students were also encouraged to plan team outfits. Northern Tier Regional Library hosted events for students to create screen-printed t-shirts, make team buttons and work on their team posters.

On battle night, students were prepared to answer trivia questions about each book. Students also were required to memorize each author’s name with correct spelling. Battle night included three rounds of questions with one question per book per round. At the conclusion of each grade’s battle night, the top three teams were revealed, with the top team winning the much-coveted BOB Duck.

Our sixth-grade winning team, The Winning BOBliophiles, is Eden Hall's first-ever threepeat! This team took first place in fourth grade and fifth grade as well.

“We are thankful for the support we have received from our staff, administrators, and community partners in making Battle of the Books successful year after year,” said Mrs. Strine.

Congratulations to our top three teams in each grade!
